The one question I never consistently answered throughout my childhood has to be: "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I've managed to answer this question fully exploring the career spectrum; I've considered being a teacher, a doctor, a novelist, a detective, and a comedian. I was even told that at a tender age I was passionate about entering a convent as a result of the release of Whoopi Goldberg's "Sister Act." Although I still have no clear vision of what career I would like to pursue, I do know that I want to make a living using as many of my creative talents as possible. My fantasy job would be working in my friend's film productions as a writer, photographer, actor, and overall editor.
There are numerous actors and directors who accrue their friends' talents to produce projects together. A close friend of mine aspires to be a filmmaker with hopes of including our group of friends in his projects. Besides the obvious comfort of having friends in a working environment, he is aware of the talents each member of the group possesses. All of us want to remain as close as possible when we embark on our career paths; the best amalgamation of both our talents and our collective dream to be together in the future would be the creation of a film production company run by all of us in the group.
The talents I can contribute to this film company will range from different types of editing to performing. As a photographer, I would assist in the visual editing of the motion picture as well as photograph promotion pictures and scene stills. I have had experience performing on stage as well; therefore, I would find myself in front of the camera as well as behind it. My friend and I have exchanged pieces of writing, from poetry to stories. He recognizes my talent, and I know that he sometimes struggles with the completion of writing scenes. I would then assist in the writing process of the films. Lastly, no film is complete without a soundtrack. Not only would I assist in finding the right music for the right scenes, but I would also contribute my own compositions to the films.
What would be the overall effect of all this? Whenever I envision a photograph, or sit at my keyboard, or play my guitar, or write a poem, or perform, I feel most in my element. There is nothing more natural and euphoric than utilizing my talents for art's sake. I am an artist of many trades, and I certainly would love to leave my mark in the world through this job; moreover, I'd be doing what I love to sustain myself. The ultimate dream for anyone would be to pursue a career that makes him wholeheartedly happy. This is what would evoke such happiness from my soul. Although there remain uncertainties in my life, striving for this dream job is certain.
